Over the past 5 years I have submitted mostly positive reviews to TripAdvisor . So I struggle with this review because Bike Switzerland does not provide what it says it will and I think it is important to submit an honest review. In order to keep it to the required paragraph I will not be politically correct.
This is a review of the BIKE SWITZERLAND GUIDED CHALLENGE TOUR 2017. I am very fit and ride over 2,500 miles a year.
The hotels and the bikes ( as long as YOU know how to make it fit you) were very nice. This is the most expensive tour company I have used with the least amount of support. In fact there is no SAG wagon, in an emergency you have to figure out how to use the train and bus system, no breaks where They supply energy bars, the group consisted of 19 riders, I was told the cut off was 12. There were only 2 guides. The guides and transport/cook (for transporting luggage and providing picnic lunches) are contracted out and not employees. One guide was a previous employee from 6 years ago that flew in from California to help. The second guide only works for Bike Switzerland doing one or two tours a year. My GPS did not match the route we were riding, it didn’t match the guides and my position on the GPS left me confused of where I really was. One person had done the self-guided tour prior to this guided tour and said she spent half the time trying to figure out where she was. Thankfully she is very fit and had the energy. There was no cultural wine tasting, cheese making tour, breakfast on the farm.?...... You were on the bike route daily for 9 hours. Getting to the hotels late and to tired to explore the village or take in the resort. After the first day of riding 4 riders did not ride the second day and at noon another 5 dropped out having to figure out how to get there bikes and themselves to that evenings hotel. Meaning more than half the group dropped out on day two. The itinerary was not what we rode, and I understand it has to be flexible, but we climbed 18,000 feet in lieu of 14,000 feet. I am a climber and don't mind but I did not plan of going to Switzerland to only bicycle. Say the least I was very disappointed in Bike Switzerland and I had been looking forward to doing this trip for the past 4 years.
